Description: Tom, Jade, and Craig wanted to come up with the ultimate Siege concept, and thus we came up with Trident. The idea behind Trident was to create a map where the defense had a reason to come outside. We also wanted to create an area large enough to handle the clash of two large teams. The map is designed so you have to siege and defend in a progressive manner up the gut of the map, where the final conflict happens in the Keep at the top of the hill.

I love siege maps. This is one of the best out there. But I am fond of DeathRow!

I do. Ultima Thule is better.

I really don't see how this map can be bested. The greatest siege map by far!!!!

The map can be exceedingly easy to cap, or exceedingly difficult. I myself just way point the gen hole, and throw mortars into it from 250 meters away to the side, making it an easy map to kill gens on. UNLESS, someone literally body blocks the gen. Reminds me of Patience in that fashion. All in all, the map is slow for Siege maps. The average cap should fall around 7 minutes if both sides know what they're doing. I personally don't believe this map deserved "best Siege map" type score. Ultima Thule is quite probably the best Siege map made by Dynamix.

Well, I normally don't like seige because it seems to be more of a who gets lucky game than anything else. Because the D can usually repair stuff, the progress the O makes is taken back when an attack is over meaning the map can take any amount of time from being real fast to never getting done... just which team gets lucky the fastest. Here, it is not so! That is why I like this. Concentrating your forces on one objective at a time gets you closer and closer to the goal and you know you're gonna get it eventually. This one is actually a race instead of the stab in the dark most seige games are... and that's as it should be! VGW!

I've been a huge siege fan since the day I got T2. This map certainly offers up very simple siege concepts, yet some of the best siege gameplay yet. This is certainly NOT a 2 minute map on any server with decent players, and the terrain dynamics offer enough of a challenge to make the non-repairable gens a viable option. As with any of the complex siege maps, it takes a few rounds before players really get the dynamics and defend well. With the stunning new skies and structures, and the perfectly corresponding terrain, this is without a doubt one of the best T2 maps ever. Likewise, the side-offense bases which can be captured and turned into regular spawn points... this works perfectly. The few bugs in the initial release have been fixed, and we should all realize and be thankful for what Dynamix has done for us over the years. A+ doesn't even do the feeling justice.

This is how tribes 2 was supposed to be like. I don't usually play siege but this map has converted me. I just can't shake how beautiful this map is, i mean everything from the sky to the archetecture to the water, it's just absolutely amazing. One would get mixed feeling just by seeing this map... 2 feeling in particular. An imposing feeling if you are on offense staring at that castle up on that hill knowing you have to assail each level before conquering it. And if you are on the Defensive. the that rush as you see an invading army at the gates of your castle rushing up to test your mettle. OMFG this map roolz.

Ultima thule is still my favorite siege map, however this comes a close second. For everyone whom protested about lone cowboy HO's just skiing by dropping mortars in, on the majority of the pubs a HoF has been implanted to sit on top of the skylight. Most commonly at midfield gen, its impossible for a lone HO to get him off, the mortar bounces off the surrounding white cast of the skylight barely even harming the Heavy standing on the skylight.

This is the best Siege mission I have ever played. I have played it in Base and in MeltDown2. If you htough playing it in base is fun try in a mod (its tricky to do but you can repair the gens in MD2 with the repair gun). Definatley worth the A+.

Excellent map. The concept is awesome. There was a mod for t1 that had helicopters and stuff (i cant remember what it was called) but they had a map exactly like this. I had thought about making one for siege until this pack was released :) All i can say to dev is just go HO, disc jump high, and lob a mortar into the hole. If your aim is decent you can hit it quite easily. :) Deserves the 98\%, a very high quality map, even tho it beat my 92\%. lol. I hope this gets added to the good siege servers :)

Awesome! I don't know about gameplay. Don't even play siege. But the atmosphere wields a trident and demolishes any opposition unfortunate enough to visit without a plan of attack, or at least tactful diplomacy. Do think inventories and what not need to be named at this stage of the game, as I've said before on other maps (and a note I've made of my own).

Ok, just played a game of this where it started with 7 per side. It took 6:54 seconds for the turn with my side attacking. The first 2 attempts at the Courtyard generator were twarted, but the 3rd went smoothly. We attacked from 2 sides mortaring the area and those sentries couldn't keep up. 2 of the 4 with us rushed midfield only to be cut down by some heavies and a lot of turrets. Something a lot of people are forgeting is the targeting laser and mortar combo. We took out the midfield generator from long range. I went out to the island to the west and held a targeting laser on the generator mound. Several heavies at that point mortared over a hill (they had a sniper) once they got the targeting position. They each sent 4-5 mortars (I was sniped) and the turrets around it as well as the generator was gone. We then rushed the final generator and got the switch. The one where we defended took about 20 minutes but we would have fallen back sooner had they been organized (we were an organized defense but there is only so much you can do and the map is not laid out for defense regardless of what you think). If it was, that team forcefield would not be up at the front gate. You want to focus people through that area one at a time and instead you spread them out. Bad tactical move. I would make that back wall to the courtyard smaller so that the sentry turrets have overlapping fields of fire. The base to the far left (when looking at the main base from the attackers standpoint) is a complete waste of time. The Neriad base is too close and powerful. If you were going to have that base be destroyed and left in ruins, then at least mine it first.

This is a visually pleasing map in my opinion. The play is ok but i do feel that it could have used work just like every other map. I feel though that this map does deserve MoTW being a mapper. I see where other mappers come from but motw doesn't matter about who made it, the only matter is how it plays. BTW, just curious, it seems they put alot of time into this map with custom everything but there is no bot support :)

Ahh Dev makes it sound so easy ... I suppose that would work against a team that had no clue. I suppose your solo glory runs work just as well against the midfield and switch generators too? Try playing against a team with even the slightest clue about defense. I'm not saying this map can't be captured quickly, but if there are at least a few half-decent players on the defensive team, it's nowhere near as easy as you guys make it sound. We have played at least 6 pub matches on this map and each one went for quite a while and was a blast.

Let me walk you step by step through blowing the first generator. Get medium armor with a missile launcher and grenade launcher. Go around the right side through the water and come back up on the land right away. Run a few steps, turn back and fire missiles at the plasma while walking forwards and sideways towards the wall with the 2 sentrys on it. You should have blown the plasma turret by the time you reach the wall, if not keep firing and add some discs if you need to. Jump up on the wall and fire grenades into the hole in the ground. This can usually be done before anyone is there to interupt to. If you want to be sure then blow up the inventory stations on the back side of that wall before taking on the hole. If you stand on that wall above a sentry turret, it can't hit you and you are out of range of the other one. 4-5 grenades down the hole will blow that generator. I can usually do all of this within the first minute of the game. I have also done this in light armor using a disc. I stood on the wall, dodging the plasma shots as my energy recharged, then flew up high moved a little forward and using zoom fired discs into the hole. Again it was out around the 1 minute mark of the game.

This map defentily deserved the 98\%. I don't know what you guys are talking about with the B's, you must have been on one crud hole team. I played this map on the Lunch Time Fun T2 server and we held it the entire time which was like 45 minutes. We held the courtyard for at least 7 min, with 2 heavies with shield packs, taking turns sitting on the gen opening and covering the other, while repairing turrets. Then when they got to where I was making my stand, at mid-field, we held it until the last 6 min of game. I was a heavy engineer, and had 6 spiderclamp around the gen area, and all 8 landspike in behind. We had 2 heavies with shield packs again alternating on gen hole, and I would repair them and give em ammo. Then at last 6 min, we destroyed all other the mid turrets once gen was down, and held main base till the end. You only need a half good team to make this map last a good long time. I am very impressed with it, and it is by far the best Seige map, and most eye-stunning of all. 99.9\%.

I think this map is awesome, definately deserves an A. No map is perfect, but It is still good if you can ski into a base and take out the gen good for you must not be playing against an enemy. Cause I haven't seen any heavy ski in yet and take out a gen in the games I've played then fly head first as they die though. I recommend anyone download this even if you don't play siege, after this map you will play more.

This map would be great for competition games, but for pub games, it is usually over way too quickly (not that it's really the maps fault, but someone should have thought about unorganized pubs). The good players can easily hone their lone-cowboy skills on this map offline, by practicing droping mortars on the gens, while skiing past defenses. It's pretty upsetting to spend all your time setting up defenses, then have someone bypass them completely. I think the concept for this map is sound, but the implementation is not as good as it could be.
Grade: BSubmitted by: |SM|Byte - 08/28/2001 01:08 2361
I have to agree with Scuba on this map. It is a 2 min map easy, and that is boring. Unrepairable gens make defense very important, but thats also punishment. I saw one heavy ski by both gens and drop a mortar in each hole, perfect. or at least on top, and it would blow the gens. There was nothing that could be done. I don't think it deserved 98\% for MOTW. Yes, It is pleasing to the eye, but gameplay isnt that good
Grade: BSubmitted by: [HvC]Dev - 08/28/2001 01:08 2360
Didn't care for this. While it seems like a mammoth mission with tons of defenses to wade through they are as easily bypassed as the French Fortresses during WWII. Once that is done the forcefields protect that base from then on. It is a simple matter of sending a light with a repair pack to the side bases and getting the generator up. The first set only requires a few missiles at the plasma turret, then you just stand on the wall and lob grenades or mortars down the hole at the generator. If you charge the generator you will be torn apart, however the only thing that can touch you standing on the wall is the plasma. The next one is just as easy and so is the final base which has several entrances and you can get the generator from a multitude of areas. I would take a light with a cloaking pack to get the final generator. I played this with someone else and the mission ended just under 2 minutes.

this map is a blast to play, not only because of the awesome gameplay, but the incredible new buildings and sky. I think we can use the new buildings anyway im pretty sure they show up in the miscelaneous category, i havent checked yet. Anyway, great map! This map should encourage more people to try out siege, a great gametype.

Amazing.. just.. amazing.. WELL worth the download. I still think Sierra/whoever should toss all these maps in with an official patch for T2, not only because they kick ass and deserve to be played more often than they are now, but also because it'd give editors access to the new buildings and bases.. anyways.. GREAT map. Possibly the best Siege map I've ever played.

I feel this is the best seige map out there. A must download map.
