| Description: |
I loved the idea of a tank-battle so much, that I wanted to do another one. Like Artillery, this map is a ground-battle, with vehicle pads that only create tanks and MPBs. However, the lack of inventory stations forces you to rely on the vehicles more, and be more creative in how you do things. There are plenty of supplies in the base, and the MPB also can provide everything you need, but the MPB is also a tasty target that can be difficult to deploy... There are capturable objectives, and the flag is in a seperate tower from the main base. The bases aren't all that far apart, so the battle gets quite fast and furious. A real heart-pounding mission! |

And the easiest way to hold an important piece of land is to have an MPB close by. So grab the towers, attack the enemies flanks and force them back, all the while moving the MPB up ever so much closer to the centre of the map and beyond. A+ all the way!!! |

Just make sure you get a MPB up VERY quickly and then set lots of Inventory stations. Its very fun, wouldnt say a must have, becuase not alot of people like bases with no inventorys. But its a Very well balanced mission, and extremely fun. |

Okay. .so my first impression of this map was soured by an idiot teamember parking the MPB in the big pit, but I'll say this for the map. It's definetly fast paced and CRAZY! |

| Grade: A- | Submitted by: Left - 05/24/2001 08:05 494 | | oooh, this map is messy. players seem to either love it or hate it. the ones who hate it probably have problems deploying and placing the MPB. ;)
the MPB on this map is basically the key to victory. otherwise you can't set up a nice flag relay to seal the deal.
most of the times i've played this map it's been very one-sided. i don't think this is because of the asymmetric base layouts, i think it's because one team knew what to do and the other one didn't.
this is not a map i'd happily spend an hour on. you'd cap out before then anyway, probably. but the splattery, messy, tank-killin' fun you'll have doing it (along with the lack of air vehicles and stations - way to force the masses to PLAY THE GAME!) makes it worthwhile and explains why i've given this map an A-...
why -? well, basically for reasons outlined elsewhere in these comments - those towers are too far away to be useful. oh, and in case no one noticed, one of the bases has a force field whose "molasses effect" stays on after you nuke the solar panel. |
| Grade: A | Submitted by: Crolis - 05/21/2001 09:05 444 | | You know, I've always gotten misty when playing with tanks, whether it was Battlezone or the old Combat game for the Atari 2600. Something about being in control of all that power. But I digress... The Beowulf Tank is unlike other famous video game tanks. It is an often overlooked vehicle, but can be lethal if operated by skilled crewmen (or women). A good driver who understands that his gunner needs a stable platform for that awesome shot and the gunner who understands that keeping your shields up means survival -- these are the guys that give the enemy team a discount on treating shellshock from their local HMO.
Anyway, enough with the dramatics. The map is great fun to play, completely chaotic in a good way, and most importantly, compels people to work together. Skill and thoughtfulness make all the difference, not to mention a hissing green ball of heavy luv. :) |
| Grade: B+ | Submitted by: Ceej - 05/21/2001 04:05 433 | | The carnage in the open area between the bases is satisfying. This is another bumpertank map. I have two suggestions: The outlying towers aren't close enough to the action to make taking them critical to winning. The tower turrets might need to move forward. The other problem is that the lack of inventory only matters until each team parks a Jericho up on the cliffs behind their base. Consider adding inv stations or making it tanks-only. Or maybe the solution for both problems would be to put inv stations in the remote towers? |

Interesting concept, but I think this map could have benefitted from at least one inventory station even if it was out in the open. The vehicles would probably get more use if the bases were further apart or there were cliffs to park them on and rain mortars on the base below. |
