Review:
Big Rocks by EEPROM is simply the best custom mission released to date. This mission is a great concept that was executed superbly. Not only is it creative, but it has great game play as well. The mission is very well balanced, giving neither team has any kind of a decisive advantage. Despite its small size, it’s an all out Capture the Flag lover’s dream realized.
Each team’s base consists of four pillars rising up from a lava ocean that covers the entire world. These pillars sit at the end of a set of walkways that form a giant +. The flag sits on the pillar farthest away from the opposing team’s base. In front of the flag rests a plasma turret, to the left of the flag rests a pair of inventory stations and to the right of the flag rests a vehicle station. Each of these items sits on its own pillar. Above the set of inventory stations lies a pair of solar generators. These generators power the entire base. Directly below the center or the walkways is a small flat island that is located barely above lava level. On this island sits two health patches and one health kit. This rock is good springboard for flag runs and is also your best friend if you have grabbed the flag but in doing so taken heavy damage.
Since the entire mission is covered by lava, getting to the other teams base can be a challenge at times. You have two options, you can either fly over using a vehicle from the vehicle station or you can try to jet from pillar to pillar. There are 4 more pillars between each teams base. A small rock bridge connects the center two pillars, while the outer two are completely isolated from each other and the bases they are closest to.
Every element you could want in a great CTF mission is here: Vehicles, great structures, a challenging environment, fast paced action and much more. The only real flaw in this mission is a small bug with each teams Plasma turret. This big in no way affects the turret’s function or flexibility. It is merely a slight cosmetic error. This mission is simply outstanding through and though. Definitely give this mission and shot, you won’t be sorry you did.
