Review:
Erebus was created by Dave "Diamondback" Meddish, former Dynamix developer, for the recent UVALAN3 Tribes 2 event on the east coast. Dave has given us a map with unique terrain, fast paced gameplay, and a challenging layout.

Dave's intention was to provide the interesting and challenging mechanics of Dessicator, and the fast paced gameplay of Katabatic. In my opinion, that goal was met 100 percent. Even with smaller teams, the action on this map was constant.

Similar to Dessicator, the flag is out in the open, but protected by forcefields on all sides. To get access to the flag, the attackers must destroy two generators which are perched in a tower off to the side of the main attack route. This makes things challenging for both the attackers and the defense. Some people think the generators are too easy to destroy on this map, but I think that just encourages teamwork on the defense, which is never a bad thing.

One of the first things you'll notice about this map is the somewhat bizarre terrain texturing. You'll see a combination of snow and lava throughout the map. The lava almost seems to be melting through the snow-covered peaks of each hill in the area. The lava also fills up a pair of craters in the midfield area of the map.

Between those lava-filled craters is a wide open area that is often host to small skirmishes between offensive teams. The craters also make life a bit trickier for ground vehicles making their way across the map. The surrounding terrain is composed mostly of small rolling hills, making for good skiing as well as sniping locations.

Server admins should definitely considering putting this client-side map into their rotations, as many players will be asking for it. I hope we see more creations from Diamondback in the months to come.
