Review:
There are times when going back is actually a move forward. In the case of Nefilim's |Classic| Rollercoaster, it is just that. A superb recreation of the old T1 map Rollercoaster, this map brings the memories of excellent gameplay and team tactics to the game of Tribes2.
|Classic| Rollercoaster is essentially the same map from the older Tribes 1 days. There are two bases facing one another over a short expanse of rolling hills. Each base has a vehicle pad with the vehicle choices limited to shrikes and havocs. The inventory stations at each base are behind a forcefield powered by solar panels atop the roof which also powers everything else on the base. Just like the old map, two turrets guard the flag. An elf and a plasma turret is what initially begins but expect those turrets to be quickly changed out for the more powerful AA or missle turrets. The flag is in a superb position for those unfamiliar with this T1 map. It is open but has a roof over it to prevent it from being too vulnerable. So you will have to swoop in through the open breezeways to snatch it. Everything down to the old familiar ski routes were recreated in |Classic| Rollercoaster, bringing back that old familiar type of gameplay that many maps in T2 fail to deliver.
The map isn't too small and it's not too large. Also the familiar T2 eye candy is absent from this map as Nefilim clearly tries to get as close to the original design as possible with the few exceptions of a cactus plant here and there. It's T2 with the old familiar gameplay of T1. A superb recreation and a more than worthy download. High praise to the map makers of this T2 recreation and a nod to the original map designers of T1.
