Review:
Awesome! The layout and detail of this map will bring back those T1 giddies you would get when you first booted up the game. Akira's attention to detail pays off both visually and in the gameplay. Small, fast, beautiful, and unique gameplay are words I would use to best describe this work of art.
Mirrored bases stare off at one another across a grand expanse of deep, twisting ravines choked with thick, rolling fog. The golden fleece of each side sits on a lofty perch swaying gently in the wind waiting...waiting for all hell to break loose around it. That is exactly as it appears when playing this map never being too sure when and where the enemy will appear from and slam some of that mean green up your rectum.
The flag is situated in an open spaced building, protected by two medium sized towers each hosting a modular plasma gun and inventories. Behind the flag sits a smalled tower with a third plasma gun securing the rear approach. At first, I thought the layout of so many modular cannons was a bit excessive until I saw how tenacious the enemy could be attacking from the cover of the fog.
Supporting the defenses is the main "HQ" building hosting the main weapons generator, inventories, and the all important repair pack. Protected by green forcefields, the attacker has essentially no way of base raping your facilities until he knocks out your forcefield gens located elsewhere. That elsewhere being 'below' the main base compound forward from the base but in a deep, deep gulley obscured by the heavy fog. These forcefield gens are lightly protected by one motion turrent located directly above the FF generator itself and really doesnt pose much of a problem to the attackers with the exception of that sneaky, occasional cloaker.
The terrain layout is what really brings this map to heart. The heavy fog drifts make some interesting firefights when you can ski in and out of them whether you are chasing or dodging opponants. The expanse of the map is 'just right' being not too large or too small for the classic mode of play.
I had an immense amount of fun playing in the T2maps pick-up we had on this map and really look forward to playing it again. I just have to say cheers to Akira and his contributions to the T2 community. Now someone go badger TWL to stick this in their lineup so we can play it more.:P
