Review:
Simply put, Trident is a landmark mission by which all other Siege missions will be judged. Not only does it have truly remarkable gameplay and allow for diverse tactics, but it is the most visually pleasing map released for a First Person Shooter to date.

Both the offense and the defense have three main objectives in the mission. The offense starts with two Jerichos and a single Repair pack. Although this is where the mission starts, this is not the offense's only point from which to attack. To your left and 800 meters away is the Triton base. To your right and 900 meters away is the Neriad base. Each of these bases serve as an important staging area in the battle that is to follow. When the mission starts, both of these bases are completely disabled and destroyed. Once you repair the Generator located in the main room of each base, force fields go up that protect the base from defenders and new spawn spheres become active. This means that once you have repaired the bases, you can spawn there, much closer to the action. The Triton base is a perfect staging area for attacks on the Midfield Generator, and the Neriad base is a perfect launching point for sieges against the Main Base.

The defense team's assets are spread across the map. First and farthest away from the main base is the Courtyard. This is the most heavily defended area of the map. Buried in the ground is a Bunker, resting at the bottom of this bunker is the Courtyard Generator. The courtyard defenses and the main base force fields are powered by this generator. This generator as well as all the other defensive generators can not be repaired once destroyed. This means the defense only has one shot at defending each location. Although this may sound like it would be easy to destroy, it is in fact very difficult with an adequate defense. The opening to the bunker is so small not only can a player not fit down it, you have to be very precise in order to drop a mortar or grenade down the hole. Add to that the fact that it is protected on the sides by 2 sentry turrets, and from frontal attack by 2 additional sentry turrets as well as a plasma turret, and you have a very formidable task ahead of you.

The second stage of the campaign is the Midfield base. Although it has no defenses, the closely located inventory stations help to bolster the defense. Once again the Generator is located at the bottom of a bunker inaccessible to all. This bunker is identical to the one found in the Courtyard base. This generator controls the final force fields protecting the Switch Generator. Once it is destroyed, the final barriers protecting the final generator are lifted, and the final siege begins.

The main base is the final push of the campaign. This base has 4 separate entrances, but a single goal, destroy the switch generator. The Generator can be accessed from two locations: A skylight identical to the roof of the Courtyard and Midfield bunkers, or through several slats in the wall of the basement. Once again, the generator is inaccessible for repair. Once this objective is destroyed, the force fields around the Switch located outside of the main base are lowered, and it is only a mater of time before it is captured and roles reverse.

When defending the Courtyard be sure not to leave your Midfield generator undefended. This is a common mistake that could cost you the game. With the Midfield Generator destroyed, your back is broken and your forces have been dived. This makes capturing your base much easier.

Like with defending the Courtyard generator, be sure not to leave your main base unprotected. With force fields protecting all the entrances it may be tempting to move all your forces to the outlying bases. However, very quickly the tide might turn and you may have to move all your forces rapidly to your main base, in some cases finding that you have returned too late and your main base has already been destroyed. Thus you would be forced to make a last ditch effort of defending the wide-open switch.

The Dynamix Development Team's goal with Trident was to create the ultimate Siege concept; they met that goal and surpassed it. Trident combines revolutionary gameplay with incredible graphics and the ability to incorporate an unlimited number of strategies. This is by far the best mission released to date. If you only download a single mission, make sure it is Trident.
